If you are a person who has always had a strong desire to become a nurse, midwife or social worker then this course will provide you with an excellent introduction to the topics that you will be studying when you go to University to pursue your career in your chosen field. During the course you will gain practical experience to get insight in to the everyday work involved in all of these professions.
What qualifications or experience do I need ?Applicants will need to have a Full BTEC First Diploma in Health and Social Care awarded at Merit or Distinction. You may also apply if you have 5 GCSE grade A*-C, which must include English Language and Mathematics at Grade C or above.Functional Skills in English and Maths at Level 2 will also be accepted.
What will I study ?You will be required to attend college 3 days a week and do one day a week for the duration of the course on work placement in a Health and Social Care setting. Year one of the course you will study: (1)Developing Effective Communication in Health & Social Care (2)Equality, Diversity and Rights in Health & Social Care (3) Health, Safety and Security in Health and Social Care (4)Development through the Life Stages (6)Personal and Professional Development in Health and Social Care (21)Nutrition for Health (24)Introduction to Counselling Skills for Health and Social Care (39)Infection Control and Prevention On successful completion of achieving Merit or Distinction for year one of the course and if you maintain an excellent level of attendance and punctuality, you may be able to progress on to year two in order to achieve the BTEC National Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care.
How will I be assessed ?Students will be assessed by completing assignments and attending work placements. Please ensure you bring to your interview a handwritten personal statement of approx. 200 words about why you want to work in Health and Social Care
What qualifications could I achieve ?BTEC National Diploma in Health and Social Care Level 3 (The course is equivalent to 3 A Levels)
