Course programme

Course content:

This practical course is part time to allow students to combine it with A levels. The course focuses on acting and provides the opportunity to develop a range of skills and experience different types of production work. The course provides opportunities to work on real projects with clients from other parts of the college and other institutions in the local community. Activities include devising new material, developing acting and performance skills and improvisation. The programme has well equipped specialist facilities as well as strong regular links to other production companies and facilities in the area.

The qualification is equivalent to 1 ‘A-level’ and students can achieve UCAS points if university is their career choice. The course has been planned to compliment the ‘A’-level provision offered within Newark Sixth and will suit students who want to combine this vocational study with A level subjects.

Students will attend two days a week but additional time will be needed for rehearsals prior to a production. This course is made up of 6 units which are continually assessed. There is no formal exam. Students will be involved in productions that will be planned to avoid the main ‘A-level’ examination period.

Level: Level 3 Course Type: Full Time

Assessment and Progression:

Assessment

All coursework is internally assessed regularly and verified annually. There is no exam. All students aged 16-19 will follow an appropriate Functional Skills programme of English or ICT and this will be linked to their coursework. Assessment is by an external test.

Progression

Successful students may move on to the extended diploma, seek employment within the performing arts industry or progress to higher education studies or into drama or dance school.

Personal Tutor Support:

All students are given a Personal Tutor who has the responsibility to support learning and monitor progress through weekly group or individual tutorials. The Personal Tutor will set achievement goals with students and feedback regularly to them on progress toward meeting these.
