NVQ level 3 in a recognised building trade
Three GCSEs at Grade C or above in:Mathematics, Physical, General or Combined Science, English or a subject involving written English, such as History.

Study Method:
Suitable qualification beyond those listed or proof of proffesional experience at a suitable level may enable you to claim exemption and therefore complete the course in a shorter duration. For more details contact staff in the School of Built Environment.
Duration :Part time 1 year for 1 day per week
Who the Course is For:
The BTEC National Certificate course has been designed to enable students to develop a career in the construction industry. Though being employed is not a prerequisite for course entry. Those who wish to develop a career as a construction technician or professional in architecture, building surveying. It also provides a bridging route to HNC in Construction for those learners with an NVQ3 in a recognised craft.
Assessment:
Assessment is made on the basis of course work and assignments completed plus an integrated vocational assignment. End tests or time-controlled assignments. These are all set and marked internally and moderated by BTEC. The NC can be obtained by passing 6 units which include those essential to the course.
Course Leads To:
Improved opportunities in employment.
Career change.
Progression to National Certificate programmes, which can lead to HNC and Degree level study.
Professional institute courses.
The majority of students completing National Award courses at Barking College go on to study on the National Certificate or Diploma courses and more than half of these go on to degree level courses, which reflects the high standards achieved here.
