The BTEC National Award in Dance is equivalent to an A Level and can be completed in just one year, allowing A Level students to complement their other studies. Alternatively, an applied course for students who wish to combine dance and drama with a BTEC National Certificate in Acting. The course will enable students to study a wide range of dance styles through practical and theory lessons, as well as through being a member of the BSix Youth Dance Company. The Dance Company is new to BSix this year. and has its own website. As a member, you will have the opportunity to both dance and choreograph, and take part in dance competitions and festivals.

About this course
Five GCSEs at grade C or above, including English. Students should have either a GCSE in Dance or a considerable amount of experience in external dance classes.

What will I be doing?
You will be required to complete two core units:
- performing to an audience
- dance appreciation
You will also study three specialist units from a selection, including:
- choreographic principles
- developing contemporary dance
- jazz dance
- urban dance
How will I be assessed?
You will be continually assessed throughout the year - there is no final examination. However, certain elements of your work will be externally assessed. The coursework will be both practical and written, and you will always have the chance to improve your grades in order to achieve your full potential, providing you meet deadlines set by your teacher.
Where do I go from here?
On completion of this course, you can progress to university to study Performing Arts or Dance.
