Dance BTEC National Award (Level 3)
INTRODUCTION
This course is a two-year full time level 3 course which is equivalent to a full "A" level qualification.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
This course would suit students interested in the creative and technical process of Dance. It would compliment work carried out by students studying such areas as; Drama and Theatre Studies Music Technology Technical Theatre Media and Film Studies Art and Design The purpose of the course is to enable students to be trained to a high standard in Dance. The work covers three elements; Techniques; Choreography and Performance. You will study a number of dance styles that will include some of the following, as well as others: contemporary, hip-hop, ballet, tap, capoeira and world. You will learn physical skills such as: posture, alignment, balance, co-ordination, flexibility, strength and body awareness. Choreographic devices such as: motif, variation, development, repetition, dynamic variation, contrast, climax, highlights, proportion and balance.
CONTENT
The course consists of six areas of study: Movement in Dance Choreography Contemporary Dance Performance Rehearsing Performing
ASSESSMENT
There is no end examination. You will be assessed through assignments briefs. They will be set throughout the course and require you to research information, create ideas, practice dance techniques, choreograph, rehearse, perform and keep a record of your activities [log books].
HOW WILL I STUDY?
Individual and group tasks Listening and note taking Analysis of dance performance Practical workshops Choreographing solo and group work Managing and scheduling rehearsals Research work Discussion and debate Most of your work will be based around practical sessions. You will need to wear appropriate clothing and footwear. We have excellent facilities in the newly built specialist Performing Arts area. Each year, students attend professional workshops and live performances both in College and out at various theatre venues. In addition, you will have the opportunity to take on extra curricular activities in a range of art forms
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Are you interested in the creative and technical skills required for the creation of Dance? Students do need to demonstrate enthusiasm, an ability to work alone as well as part of a group, working to tight deadlines and an interest in the creative process of Dance. Students will need to attend audition workshops. WHERE NEXT? Further study in Higher Education in such related courses as, Dance, Musical Theatre, Performance Arts Industry related employment in Dance and Performance Arts.
