The course is designed to enable you to:
Develop your knowledge and understanding of outdoor education
Participate in regular practical sessions and residential opportunities
Participate in new activities
Study a course which is 100% coursework and therefore has no exams
Is it for me?
This course suits those who enjoy the outdoors and are keen to challenge themselves to learn new skills, are practically minded and prefer to learn and work on assignments rather than a final exam. This course is taken over 2 years and is equivalent to 1 A level.
hat's involved?
The Body in Action
In this unit you will learn about the human body and how it responds to physical activities especially in the outdoor environment.
Health and Safety
Topics covered in this unit include planning safe activities, risk assessment, maintaining a safe environment, as well as up to date rules and regulations from the industry.
Training and Fitness
This will be based around improving your performance in some of the outdoor activities you have experienced. You will learn how to test relevant areas of fitness for outdoor sports and to plan a programme of training.
Outdoor and Adventurous Activities
A mainly practical unit during which you will experience many different outdoor activities.
Principles and Practices in Outdoor Education
Topics covered in this unit include; the development and background to outdoor education, the benefits to participation in outdoor education and the range of activities available.
Expeditions
Examine many different expeditions that have been undertaken and their successes as well as failures. You will then need to plan and carry out a variety of expeditions in small groups which will be reviewed and analysed in depth upon return.
