About this course
Entry requirements for the course are a BTEC First Diploma in a related subject (Distinction), a CACHE Level 2 DCE at Distinction / B Grade or at least 5 GCSEs at grades A* - C (one of which must be English or Welsh) with Maths and Science necessary for teaching and nursing. A GNVQ Intermediate in a related subject (Distinction) is also acceptable. NVQ Level 2 CCLD alone is not sufficient....

Who is this course for?

BTEC National Certificates and Welsh Baccalaureate Diplomas are valued by employers and higher education.
What will I learn?
You will study 7 Core units and 3 additional specialist units. In addition, you will complete work for the Advanced Diploma of the Welsh Baccalaureate within the units, you will also undertake the Level 3 Certificate for Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools.The core unit - Reflective Practice counts as 2 units and includes 800 hours of placement with children 0 - 8 and those with special needs, over the 2 years of the course.
Assessment
Units are assessed by assignments and projects based on realistic workplace situations and demands.
Assessment is continuous throughout the course. ALL units must be passed to gain the Certificate and 80% minimum attendance is essential.
On Completion Achievement / Progression
Candidates may be able to progress to the Foundation Degree in Early Years or employment in Nursery and primary teaching, paediatric nursing, early years provision, management, childhood and youth work, developmental psychology.

Requirement
Entry requirements for the course are a BTEC First Diploma in a related subject (Distinction), a CACHE Level 2 DCE at Distinction / B Grade or at least 5 GCSEs at grades A* - C (one of which must be English or Welsh) with Maths and Science necessary for teaching and nursing. A GNVQ Intermediate in a related subject (Distinction) is also acceptable. NVQ Level 2 CCLD alone is not sufficient. Preference will be given to suitable candidates achieving more than the minimum requested. Good communication and numeracy skills are important. In addition, enthusiasm for working with and caring for children from birth to 8 years of age is essential. Experience of employment or voluntary work in caring for children under 8 years of age would be advantageous. To apply you must complete an application form. Assessment in literacy and numeracy. As you will have considerable access to young children, you will be subject to a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check so ALL previous contact with the Police MUST BE DISCLOSED at interview.
