Introduction 2 years full-time
The course is designed for those with a strong interest in, and commitment to, Art or Design. Throughout the two-year programme, students will complete a range of projects and assignments for which grades will be given. An overall grade is awarded at the end of the course following external assessment of a final major project.
Throughout the course students will:
Develop drawing skills
Develop study skills including research and visual analysis
Create written and verbal presentations
Explore and experiment with a variety of materials, techniques and processes
Express ideas and concepts
Communicate ideas, messages, meanings and information through imagery
Create and develop ideas through specialist units
Visits to local and national galleries form part of the curriculum. Live projects and strong links with The Gallery at Stratford Leisure Centre enhance students' learning experience.
There is also an opportunity to re-sit Mathematics GCSE (for those who have achieved a grade D at GCSE).
In the second year of the programme students select an appropriate specialist pathway which could be painting, sculpture, printmaking, graphics or textiles.

· Visual Communication
· Graphics Media, Techniques and Technology
· Photography Media, Techniques and Technology
· Painting in Fine Art
· Printmaking

Assessment Throughout the two-year programme, students will complete a range of projects and assignments for which grades will be given. An overall grade is awarded at the end of the course following external assessment of a final major project.

Further Opportunities On successful completion of the course you will be qualified to enter Higher Education or employment within a range of art related industries.

Entry Requirements
You will normally need at least one of the following:

· BTEC First Diploma in Art & Design with overall merit profile plus English Language GCSE at grade C or above
· At least 4 GCSEs at grade C or above, which must include Art or a related subject and English Language

Mature students without formal qualifications are welcome to join the course following a successful interview and on submission of a portfolio of work.
