Information about the course

The course aims to develop and equip students with the skills needed for successful expression and exploration of their ideas. Students are able to pursue and develop their own individual language, and explore the issues of Fine Art and Illustration.

Additionality

The course is guided by the fundamental belief in drawing as the essential tool for communication in Fine Art and illustration.
Students are taught drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, digital imaging and photography – together with traditional values and skills alongside contemporary means of expression.
Work is continually assessed and a tutorial and pastoral system ensures students are not only able to succeed, but exceed their expectations.
In the second year students work towards a portfolio of work based on a specialist pathway dictated by their personal development. Students are guided through UCAS application and other progression routes. There has been good progression by students to well-regarded courses within West Herts College and other institutions. These have been diverse – fine art,
illustration, theatre special effects, fashion design and marketing.
Students have attended the Slade Summer School, University College London in the summer vacation. With study trips to major galleries in the UK and USA, students have an enriched
experience.
