ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
The successful applicant will be in possession of 5 GCSEs at grade C or above, one of these will be either Maths or English.
Alternatively a BTEC 1st Diploma in Construction or equivalent level two trade qualification and appropriate reference
WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?
The course has been developed in response to the increasing demands of the construction industry nationally and locally in recruiting candidates who have an interest in managerial or professional aspects of construction. The BTEC National Diploma would be particularly suitable for female candidates who wish to pursue a career in construction.
Local market intelligence is predicting a short fall in the construction industry in the following areas.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
The course will cover the following areas across the main construction disciplines:
The Isle of Wight College is considered to be in the top 10% in the country and subsequently is highly focused upon the use of highly appropriate and engaging methods of learning. The assignments set will be based around realistic scenarios supported by realistic tasks and projects. There will be an element of work experience within the programme particularly in working with professional bodies.
Lessons will also aim to involve employers in visits and as guest speakers. Candidates will be expected to undertake at least 10 hours of study in their own time in order to maintain the high standards of achievement expected on the programme.

- Managers in construction account for more of the workers in the south east than across all of the regions (Construction regional foresight report 2004)
- In period between 2004 -2008 all trades show an absolute increase of around 20% in employment requirement. Notably professionals and technical staff (21.2%) (Construction Industry Training Board)

- Environmental Science
- Technology and Design Issues
- Building Materials and their use
- Methods of analysing site information
- Control of resources financial and physical
- Surveying and setting out processes
- Estimating and tendering
- To understand all legal requirements in the planning and running of a site in the present day
