About this course
You need at least 5 GCSE passes at Grade C or above to include Maths or English and you must be over 16 years of age. You must also attend sessions in the fashion department to complete a project prior to enrolment. (However, exception will be made for students with 4 GCSE Grade A-C who demonstrate at interview an exceptional ability within Art & Design).

Course Content: This course focuses on developing students creativity, originality and professional skills to a high level whilst working through the programme. You will be guided and instructed by tutors and create links with the industry. The course includes Research; Design; Drawing Development; Pattern Cutting; Garment and Accessory Manufacture; Illustration; Contextual Studies; Personal and Professional Development; Marketing and Promotion.
You will be involved in various exciting projects and you will be studying and working within a realistic working environment, benefiting from up to date technologies and equipment as well as preparation for future employment. The fashion department has excellent facilities such as purpose built studios fully equipped with industrial sewing machines and computer suite.
The programme is closely linked with an additional qualification to encourage the use of surface pattern, embroidery and specialist industrial machinery to enhance the Edexcel National Diploma in Fashion and Clothing.
Key Skills in Communication and Improving on Learning Performance are integrated into the fashion course.
Special Features: Art and Design, Fashion, Photography and Multimedia students study in the Art School located at the Ashton Centre. The Art School building has been purpose designed for students and includes the latest digital technology studios and workshops allowing students to work with industrial technology and excellent facilities while also benefiting from working within a realistic working environment.
Course Format: Students work is continuously assessed through assignments, course work and projects.
Progression: On completing your course, you will have the option of furthering your education through degree programmes in a related field or moving on to employment.
