About this course
You will need at least 5 GCSEs in the A*-C range, preferably to include Maths and English, or an appropriate Level 2 qualification such as a BTEC First Diploma or a NVQ Level 2.

This is a practical work-based course that combines both academic study and the development of practical skills and knowledge. The BTEC National Diploma in Health and Social Care is made up of eight core units and a range of specialist units selected by the College.
The core units include:
· Development through the life stages
· Fundamentals of anatomy and physiology for health and social care
· Personal and professional development in health and social care
· Sociological perspectives for health and social care
· Psychological perspectives for health and social care.
The specialist units, selected by the College are chosen from a wider list and could include: nutrition for health and social care, introduction to counselling skills for health and social care and applied psychological perspectives in health and social care. As part of this course you may have the opportunity to complete a range of placements in different care settings. You will be given the opportunity to achieve additional qualifications alongside your main course. These may include qualifications in Functional Skills and can also include specialist awards relevant to your subject. A three-day
residential to develop individual and team skills will take place at the start of the course.
How will I be assessed?
This qualification is assessed via coursework, which includes projects, assignments, presentations and practical activities.

On successful completion you may:
Progress to a university level qualification to train as a Social
Worker or as a Nurse (subject to you also having gained GCSEs in English and Mathematics in the A*-C range).
Or
Start an exciting and rewarding career in the health and care sector, for example as a Residential Elderly Care Assistant, a Youth Worker or a Young People†s Care Assistant.
Achieving this course will give you the equivalent of 3 A Levels
and provides entry to study at degree level.
