You would normally need to have at least one of the following: · A BTEC First Certificate or Diploma in a related subject. · An Intermediate GNVQ in a related subject. · At least four GCSEs at grades A* - C ( Maths, English and Science would be an advantage) · Appropriate work experience (to be discussed at interview) · Another related level 2 qualification, including NVQ level 2 in Care or Health Care. Mature students with relevant work experience may also be able to access the course.

BTEC National Diploma in Health & Social Care (Social Care) (Level 3)


Course summary:
A BTEC National Diploma is a two year full time, practical, work-related course. You learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. As well as learning about the employment you have chosen, you develop the skills you need to start a career.
It is equivalent to three A levels which means when you have finished the course you can choose whether to get a job straight away or go into higher education first.

Course content:
The course is made up of eighteen units-ten core units which everyone takes and eight specialist units. It provides the knowledge, skills and understanding required for working in a health environment. It also contributes to the underpinning knowledge for level 3 NVQ in Care and Healthcare.

Some of the core units include;
* Developing Effective Communication in Health & Social Care
* Development through the Life Stages
* Caring for Children & Young People
*

Supporting and Protecting Adults
There are a further eight specialist units that are studied as well as a mandatory requirement of 400 hours relevant work experience.
Students will also be expected to complete Key Skills, Communication, Application of Number and Information Technology at the appropriate level.

Assessment procedure:
All units are assessed, and graded and an overall grade for the qualification is awarded.

Entry requirements:
You would normally need to have at least one of the following:

Progression opportunities:
Students go into careers such as Social work, residential care management, housing and the probation service. If you want to get a job straight away you could work in: Registered care homes, Hospitals and Primary Care Trusts, Housing, Community Work and the Voluntary Sector.
If you decide to go to University or college you could take a degree or a BTEC Higher National in subjects such as: Health and Social Care, Managing Health and Care, Teacher Training or Social Policy.
