About this course

A minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade C or above, a BTEC First Certificate or Diploma or an Intermediate GNVQ in a related subject.
Mature students may be accepted without formal qualifications.

BTEC National Diploma

Who is the course for?
A BTEC National Diploma is a Level 3 qualification which is equally suitable for school leavers and mature students.

What is the course about?
You will complete a range of IT related subjects including:
Language and Communications, Computer Systems, Business Information Systems, Introduction to Software Development, Communications Technology and Systems Analysis and Design.
The course is made up of 18 units, 6 common core units and 12 specialist units. 4 of the specialist units are the Cisco CCNA Discovery course, which is a professionally recognised qualification.

Will I need anything else?
No specialist equipment is required, but it is recommended that you have a pendrive.

How long & often do I attend?
A two year course requiring attendance throughout the week.

How will I be assessed?
All units are assessed by coursework. The Cisco modules are assessed by a formal theory exam and a practical exam per module.

What opportunities will this lead to?
BTEC National Diplomas are valued by employers and higher education (universities and colleges).
Students go into careers in many IT related disciplines as technicians and technical support and progress to professional status in their chosen field, alternatively students may progress into HE, taking a degreee or a BTEC Higher National in subjects such as:
