Information about the course

The course combines 18 practical and theory units to give a broad based course on moving image production. It covers research and planning methods, film and editing techniques and analysis of media products.

Course content

25% Theory, 75% Pre-production/Production/Post production. Students take 9 units each year and units are frequently linked. the units are internally assessed and externally verified. Students complete 8 video productions over the 2 years. The college does not arrange work experience for students, but gives support to enable students to apply for a placement. We encourage students to gain 3 weeks vocational experience each year.

This is a broad-based introduction to moving image media. The course integrates work in a variety of production areas with theoretical studies. As a nationally recognised qualification the BTEC National Diploma in Media (TV and Film) can lead to a BA/Foundation Degree in a media subject or directly to a career in a media industry. The course consists of a range of production projects, theoretical studies and research topics.Production projects include TV studio, documentary, drama, advertising, music video and experimental video productions. Theoretical studies include textual analysis, studying film and studying television. Research topics include investigating media industries, and video technology. Reports are sent out twice per year to the parents of students who are under 18 years of age and consultation evenings are held. Learning Support is available for students if required.

Interviews are held between January and August for September entry, but students are advised to apply as soon as possible.
