Public Services (Uniformed) - BTEC National Diploma
What will I study?
The programme is designed for those hoping to follow a career in one of the Uniformed Services such as the Army, Navy, Police, Fire or Ambulance Service. It is a broad based course covering practical and theoretical subjects, assessed by completing projects and assignments. In addition to learning about the employment area chosen students develop the skills needed to start or progress a career within the chosen field. The programme places great emphasis on physical fitness and practical activities in order to raise the candidates fitness levels to the standard required for entry to the Uniformed Services.

How can I progress?
BTEC National Diplomas are valued by employers and Higher Education. On completion you may wish to progress to study a degree or alternatively enter employment within the Uniformed Services.

What will I need to qualify for this course?
In order to qualify for this course students are required to have one of the following; *Preparation for entry to the Uniformed Services Level 2, *First Diploma in Public Services (must achieve at least a merit), *At least 4 Grade A-C GCSEs.

Course Structure
The BTEC National Diploma is a two year vocational programme covering 18 units. In order to gain a full qualification these units will be studied; *Understanding the Public Sector Looking at how the public services work, *Law and the Legal System How our laws are made and upheld, *Leadership The Public Services are based on Teamwork, *Citizenship and Contemporary Issues What makes a good citizen, *Diversity and the Public Services How everyone fits into the mix of public services, *International Perspectives How we are seen as a country on the world stage, *The Uniformed Services Students future potential world of work, *Physical Preparation for the Uniformed Services The public Service fitness needs, *Expedition Skills Preparation for external training, *Human Behaviour Psychology and Behaviour, *Media and the Public Services How does society percieve the public sector, *Understanding Discipline the importance of positive behaviour and role models, *Public Services in Europe NATO and beyond, *Dealing with Accidents First Aid and accident prevention, *Teamwork in the Public Services Problem Solving, *Health & Fitness Practical application of the Fitness Standard, *Outdoor Activities Water bourne, Power boating, Navigation etc, *Major Incidents Command and Control in the Police and Fire Service.
