About this course

You will need: You will need the equivalent of five GCSE's at grade C or with Science at Grade B and either Maths or English Language at grade B. If you have studied a BTEC First you will need to have gained at least Merit plus Science at grade B and either Maths or English at grade B.

BTEC National Diploma in Sport & Exercise Sciences
This course provides an opportunity to study the scientific principles of sports and related topics on a full time basis. The course involves practical and theoretical aspects and provides the knowledge and experience required to pursue the full range of careers in the sports industry including physiotherapy, sports therapy and other fitness related careers. It is particularly suited to those interested in studying sport science or physiotherapy at university however would also suit those interested in teaching or coaching.

What else do I need to know?
You need an interest in at least two sports and be willing to participate in a range of practical activities. It is useful but not essential to be involved in a sport at college. Students must be prepared to develop a sense of responsibility towards the learning process and have the ability to manage their time. The course is assignment based with a variety of assessment activities including presentations, discussions, observations and video analysis. We have access to labs and a range of research equipment to support the investigative nature of this course.
Students may have opportunities to access basic coaching awards and First Aid.
The BTEC National Diploma in Sport & Exercise Sciences is a full-time course and a Pass is equivalent to three passes at A Level and offers a direct route into universities. The qualification is recognised by the leisure industry and will aid employment in this sector. It is suitable for those both wishing to apply to more selective universities such as Loughborough and Bath.
The college has links with universities, local employers and has supported several students in gaining access to sports scholarships in the USA.
This course will often be chosen by members of the "Academy of Sport". Our Academy enables students to develop their performance and qualifications to an appropriate level. Please pick up a leaflet and application form.
