Course programme
You will learn about elite performance, organisation and development of sport; key principles of sports science, nutrition and psychology; and have plenty of opportunities to take part in practical sport and assess your own performance.
You will train with top professional coaches for your chosen sport, and compete in high quality British Colleges Sport Leagues and cup competitions.
You will have the opportunity to take other related awards, including NGB Coaching Awards, a level 2 Award in Sports Leadership and CYQ Gym Instructor Awards.
The Subsidiary Diploma takes one year to complete and covers seven units. Units will be drawn from the following:
- Principles of anatomy and physiology in sport,
- The physiology of fitness,
- Assessing risk in sport,
- Fitness training and programming,
- Practical team sports,
- Leadership in sport,
- Exercise, health and lifestyle,
- Sports coaching,
- Sports development,
- Sports injuries,
- Rules, regulations and officiating in sport,
- Work experience in sport.
This is not an exhaustive list and units may be subject to change.
Entry Requirements
- A minimum of five GCSEs grade A*-C, including English language and preferably science and PE, and maths at grade D or above, or
- a level 2 qualification at overall merit grade, English at level 2 and maths at level 1, and
- a good interview and reference.
You will attend a trial for your selected academy sport where you will be expected to display a suitable level of performance.
