Business Administration - Skills For Work (Level 1)

Short Description: This course is ideal start to developing your secretarial, administration and office skills. You will also be given the opportunity to achieve Essential Skills qualifications in Literacy, Numeracy and ICT as appropriate to individual needs.

Where will it take me? Successful completion can enable you to go directly to work in an office environment. If you wish to study at the next level, there are a number of options. If you have secured employment, you can become an Apprentice at Level 2, which means you will work and study. Otherwise you can enter a Level 2 programme such as the Pre-Apprenticeship or NVQ.

Qualifications achievable at Level 1 are Award, Certificate or Diploma. Depending on credits banked, you will be eligible to progress on to the Practice in Administration course to develop further at Level 1 or commence at Level 2.

What's it all about? This course is designed to prepare you for an administration role and is ideal if you are new to this area. Together with the OCN Qualification, you will also work towards the achievement of word and text processing qualifications.

Subjects studied will include:

- Using email and text messaging
- Using word processing software
- Developing filing skills
- Building a personal career portfolio
- Understanding equal opportunities
- Work experience
- Developing customer service skills
- Using faxes and photocopiers
- Personal career planning

You will be required to complete Essential Skills in Literacy and Numeracy if you do not have a GCSE grade C in English or Maths.

You will be required to attend work placements.

How will this course make me more employable? As well as gaining a recognised qualification you will complete a period of work placement, take part in employability skills workshops such as teamwork, commitment, IT and problem solving.

You will receive a Personal Training Plan (PTP), which provides you with a detailed individual training programme. The Careers Education Programme is an integral part of this course which will equip you with the knowledge to make informed career decisions.

How will I be assessed? You will be assessed through practical demonstration, assignment and examination.
