Effective business and information communication technology professionals are the backbone of any successful organisation today. Companies are very selective and now expect their IT employees to possess an array of skills including technical, business, and managerial skills. Our foundation degree will teach you the expertise to give you the confidence to develop and use computer systems and software packages for solving business problems and making managerial decisions.

Progression:
On successful completion you may progress to:
• the final stage of a relevant IT related Honours degree at the University of Plymouth (to be agreed)
• the final stage of the BA(Hons) Business Administration degree at the University of Plymouth.
• the second year of other business related degree programmes at the University of Plymouth
• final year business degree programmes at a range of universities
• a wide range of careers in business, management, personnel, marketing, finance, accounting and public administration.

Duration: Two years Course Overview
What does the course involve?:

The programme consists of the following modules:

Year 1
• Data design and databases.
• Business finance - key aspects of financial and management accounting for decision making purposes.
• Business environment - national and European business environment.
• Marketing - the basic principles of marketing and their application in a business context.
• Personal and professional development - to assist students in achieving the level of professional skills demanded by the course and their potential employers.
• Organisational behaviour - considers how organisational behaviour and attitude influences the behaviour of individuals and groups at work.
• Work-based learning - enables students to experience issues relating to real work environments.

Year 2
• Systems analysis and design - introduces the data and functional modelling techniques.
• Project management in IT.
• Business strategy - develops the theory and practice of strategic planning and includes an emphasis on the practical application of planning modules.
• Communication networks - specifying and evaluating communication systems including networks, telecommunications and digital broadcasting.
• Data analysis and databases - provides an essential knowledge of database systems including basic design principles, practical implementation and development skills.
• Multimedia and internet development - use Internet and multimedia tools to produce an innovative multimedia solution to a specified problem domain.
• Financial management - further knowledge of the issues faced by managers when making decisions regarding financial resources.
• Management accounting - a critical evaluation of costing information required to aid decision making.
