About this course
You will generally need 4 relevant GCSE's at Grade C or above, or an appropriate NVQ Level 2, BTEC First Diploma or Intermediate GNVQ with a satisfactory grade. Mature students are welcome to apply without formal qualifications but are subject to a satisfactory interview and the outcome of initial guidance.

Who is this course for? Those who wish to gain an 'A' level equivalent qualification that focuses on the key areas of business and management that any future manager or business owner must be fully conversant with. The intention is for the learners to attain the equivalent of three 'A' levels over a two year period.
Previous knowledge required: You will generally need 4 relevant GCSE's at Grade C or above, or an appropriate NVQ Level 2, BTEC First Diploma or Intermediate GNVQ with a satisfactory grade. Mature students are welcome to apply without formal qualifications but are subject to a satisfactory interview and the outcome of initial guidance.
What will I study? Core units include Exploring Business Activity, Investigating Business Resources, an Introduction to Marketing, Effective People, Communication and Information . Learners need to study nine units in both the first and second year of the programme. Appropriate additional qualifications including key skills.
What else will I do? Key Skills, GCSE in Maths and/or English if necessary. Over the two years there is also an opportunity to study enterpsie and management units. Sport and Recreation activities take place on Wednesday afternoons. You may also join in activities arranged by the student association including trips and guest speakers.
How will I be assessed? The course is assessed through a combination of practical observations, assignments, verbal presentations, written reports and project work.
What will I achieve? In the first year a BTEC National Award in Business (equivalent to 1 A level) and 3 additional business units will be studied. In the second year of study, the nine units studied in the first year will be added to to convert the qualification to a National Diploma in Business (equivalent to 3 A levels) will Key Skills at level 2 or 3 if appropriate.
What can I do afterwards? You can progress directly to work or on to a full time or part time Degree at Coleg Powys or at another higher education institution. A National Diploma in Business provides a sound basis to progress on to Degree programmes in Business, Management, Accountancy, Marketing, Personnel and the Legal profession.
