How is the BA Business Management (Mandarin) taught?
You need no prior knowledge of Mandarin for this course. You will learn the language during the first two years through interactive classes and exercises, which will teach you about business and society in the target country as well as building your linguistic skills. You will spend your third year abroad in China, either on placement (probably as an English language assistant) or as an exchange student, before returning to continue your language studies in your final year..
Workshops, simulations, role-play, case study analyses and problem-solving exercises will help you hone your practical business management skills. You will also learn by reading textbooks and journals and attending interactive lectures and seminars. You will take part in class discussions, give presentations and work on group and individual exercises, and supplement all this with your own independent study. The first year will also give you a basic grounding in IT, writing and research skills.
Work placements
Work placements are proven to increase your success in the job market and are a key aspect of your learning experience. Students that have undertaken a work placement tend to gain better grades in academic work because they are able to draw on and apply their practical experience to their course work.
Assessment
You will be assessed through essays, exams, tests and other written assignments, presentations, and individual and group assignments. You will be given regular feedback on your work throughout the course. Your first year is not assessed, but all your grades after that will count.
