About this course

Minimum of GCSE Grade C in English and Mathematics. A genuine interest in business is also required.

What will I study?
The first year focuses on starting a small business (Unit 1) with the focus switching to medium sized businesses (Unit 2). The second year concentrates on the strategies of larger multinational businesses and the external environment within which they operate.

Duration:
One year for AS Level and a further year to complete A Level.

Do I need any additional qualifications/ skills?
You should have an interest in business and how decisions are made relating to products, people and how external environmental conditions, particularly the economy can influence profitability of an enterprise.

How will I be assessed?
A written piece of homework is set per week, which will help to assess students understanding and to develop their examination technique. Students will have two external written papers in each year.

What can I do afterwards?
Business Studies can prepare students for higher education courses as well as careers in Administration, Banking, Insurance, Retailing, and Production etc. It can also interest those who may wish to start their own business.

Are there any additional costs involved?
Two Business Studies course books, one per year which is recommended at a cost of £20 per year. Additionally students can subscribe to The Business Review magazine at a cost of £11 per year. Students are invited to attend external revision courses for each Unit which are approximately £30 (incl travel). In addition students will need to pay for any business related trips that they attend.
