About this course

Standard AS/A level entry requirements of five GCSEs at grade A*-C including English and Maths apply.
It is not necessary to have studied Business Studies at GCSE level but it would be helpful to have a strong awareness of and interest in business and current affairs.
Plus a minimum APS score: 42

You must be willing to scan serious newspapers, watch appropriate TV programmes and be able to work well both individually or as part of a team.
Content
This qualification consists of 2 modules in Year 1, making up 50% of an A level qualification.

Unit 1:
Planning and Financing a Business: challenges and issues in starting a business.
Unit 2:
Managing a Business: finance, marketing and operations.

In Year 2 of the programme to achieve the full A level, you will cover a further 2 units:
Unit 3:
Strategies for Success: Making investment decisions and workforce planning.
Unit 4:
The Business Environment: corporate aims and socio-economic environment.

Progression/career opportunities
Successful candidates can go on to degree courses in economics, law, accountancy and human resources. With a good understanding of how businesses operate you will have a head start in careers in advertising, accountancy, marketing, retail or personnel.

Extra information
This combines well with all subjects and gives students an excellent appreciation of issues surrounding marketing, finance and business.

Screening
Students will also be screened (in the College) and must achieve literacy and numeracy at the level appropriate to the course.
