About this course
Students need to be able to express themselves clearly in written form and they must be numerate.
All students are expected to have a minimum of five GCSE grades A*-C. These should include grade C or above in English Language and Mathematics.
It is not necessary to have studied Business at GCSE Level.

AS and A2 Business Studies
The AS Business course is designed to equip students with the knowledge and understanding of modern business activities. It is based on 2 compulsory units covering the topics The Business Framework and Business Functions. Areas covered include marketing, accounting and finance, operations management and external influences.
The course covers many business theories and concepts. It relieves heavily on teacher input to cover the theory and case study materials to help students to understand the concepts.
Students should be aware that the course is exam based; there are NO coursework options.
What Will I learn on the Course?
During the course students will be learning about business theories and concepts and applying the knowledge to both fictional and real life case studies.
Students will need to be able to read and interpret data under exam conditions and answer questions related to the data.
Students should be aware of current business headlines, keeping up with the news will help in the AS exams.

After The Course
After leaving Barton Peveril many Business Studies students will go on to study business related courses at University.
Others will enter employment, some on training programmes with local and national employers. The course enables them to enter areas such as Marketing, Finance and Human Resources.
Subject Combinations
Business fits well with a variety of other subjects. Many of our students also study Accounting, Law, IT and Media Studies.
