Course Overview
Level 3 Certificate for the Code of Practice for In-Service Testing of Electrical Equipment
One quarter of all reportable electrical accidents involve portable appliances. Any way in which this figure can be reduced has got to be good news.
In interpreting the application of Regulation 4(2) of the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, the Health and Safety Executive’s Memorandum of Guidance states:
Regular inspection of equipment is an essential part of any preventative maintenance - Records of maintenance, including test results, preferably kept throughout the life of an electrical system will enable the effectiveness of maintenance policies to be monitored. . .
Consequently, there is a requirement to comply with the Electricity at Work Regulations, to regularly inspect and test any equipment which may be connected to an electrical supply.
The use of test equipment known as Portable Appliance Testers (PATs) is an effective and efficient means of implementing such a maintenance programme and it is the aim of this course to show how the use of PATs can reduce the risk of danger.
The course is assessed, i.e. there will be a practical test and a multiple-choice C&G on-line examination. Candidates will be expected to satisfactorily complete the assessments before a certificate can be awarded.
