Is it for me?
The level 1 course is aimed at first time welders, if you want to develop welding skills and gain a qualification through hands on tuition then this course is for you.
The level 2 course further develops your welding skills through a wider range of practical work
What will I study?
At level 1 you will be studying Metal Inert Gas (MIG) welding.
The process involves joining two pieces of metal together using a filler wire (electrode) which is heated by electricity.
If you already hold a MIG certificate then we can offer Manual Metal Arc Welding (MMA) and Tungsten Inert Gas welding (TIG).
If you already hold a level 1 weld certificate or have sufficient practical experience, you can study at level 2. You will study the same welding methods of MIG, MMA, or TIG, but to a wider application, and higher skill level.

Our purpose built £5.5million centre is a business led facility with state-of-the-art resources and equipment including; spray booths, a rolling road, a welding workshop, and driving simulators for cars and forklift trucks.
How will I be assessed?
The course is very practical and you will weld practical test pieces and complete a portfolio which will be assessed by your tutor to the standards required by City & Guilds (the awarding body).
How will I be taught:
You will be taught by friendly professional tutors using a hands on approach.
What qualification will I get?
City & Guilds 3268 certificate in welding at level 1
or
City & Guilds 3268 certificate in welding at level 2
Can I go onto further study?
You can progress to further courses such as:
  • MMA and TIG level 1
  • MIG, MMA and TIG level 2
  • Aluminium welding level 2
  • Coded welding level 3

Career opportunities in welding are good. These skills are in short supply across a range of employment sectors such as offshore and general engineering.
