Course suitability

Candidates will be expected to demonstrate at interview a desire to work in the construction industry. Applicants will be expected to work towards gaining the Plumbing qualifications at levels 2 and 3 which are the industry standards. This course enables students to develop their practical skills alongside written and numerical skills needed to progress onto the Level 2 course. All applicants will be expected to attend and interview and undertake initial assessments to determine the correct level of course to be offered.

The course is designed to develop the basic knowledge of practical plumbing skills and the written and numerical skills necessary to progress to Level 2

Course content

The course will enable you to gain a Level 1 qualification in Basic Construction Plumbing skills. There are 8 practical tests and one on line multiple choice health and safety test.

You will learn :

· Health and Safety – on line multiple choice assessment

8 practical units :

· Transferring levels in plumbing
· Non manipulative compression fittings
· Copper pipe bending and jointing
· Working with steel pipework and fittings
· Connecting plastic fittings to a utility sink
· Connecting plastic fittings to a cold water cistern and central heating header tank
· Connection of flex to common apparatus
· Installing a one way lighting circuit

Level 1 literacy and numeracy skills

Assessment

The award is based on completion of 8 practical worksheets with associated photographic evidence and 1 multiple choice on-line health and safety test.
