Construction and the Built Environment - Painting and Decorating
C&G CITB LEVEL 1, 2 & 3 CONSTRUCTION DIPLOMA Painting & Decorating (Full Time)(2010/2011)
Study Method:
Courses consist of a number of modular units. The mode of study is by lecture inputs and resource-based learning packages, together with practical demonstrations and student practical work.
Duration :1 year per level
Who the Course is For:
This course is designed for those students who wish to gain the necessary skills required to work in the painting and decorating industry.
Assessment:
This course incorporates continuous assessment, covering practical activities, written work and oral tests. There is also an end of year multiple choice test.
To gain a full NVQ, candidates must be working in the industry and will need to produce Work Based Evidence.
Course Leads To:
By the accumulation of practical skills and associated knowledge, students can gain Units of Competence which build to give National Vocational qualifications in Painting and Decorating to foundation, intermediate and advanced levels. This can then be boosted to a full NVQ once they can gain evidence of competence in the work place. Progress to full NVQ and/or BTEC Building Studies.

Content:
All our courses are designed to cover the full range of topics and tasks as laid down by the awarding body in response to industry requirements. All practical activities are carried out within out start of the art workshops with theory work being a mix of classroom and assignment activities. The topics include:
Access Equipment: Scaffolding, Mobile scaffolds, Steps, Trestles, Ladders.
Preparation of Surfaces:Washing down, Rubbing down by hand and mechanical methods, Filling and stopping
Application of Coatings by: Brush, Spray, Roller.
Application of wall coverings: Lining paper, Woodchip, Embossed, Patterned pulp, Vinyl, Prepasted, Hessian, Lincrusta, Industrial Vinyl etc
Specialist Decorating:Graining, Marbling, broken Colour, Stencilling Health & Safety
