Are there any entry requirements?
To enrol on this course you will need to be a Teaching or Classroom Assistant with considerable experience of supporting teachers in a classroom situation.

You will need to have a Basic Skills literacy assessment
You will need to be in a placement or employment for a minimum of 10 hours a week and have the support of your employer or placement provider
You will also have to apply for a CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) check which the College will help you with and complete a medical screening questionnaire
You should have NVQ 2: Supported Teaching & Learning in Schools

What will I study?
You will learn through taught sessions, group work and self-directed study.
You will need to complete the following 6 mandatory units:

Promoting positive behaviour
Helping to keep children safe
Supporting the effectiveness of work teams
Supporting pupils during learning activities
Developing and promoting positive relationships
Reflecting and developing practice

Plus 4 optional units from a wide selection.

What can I do after this course?
On successful completion of this course you could pursue a classroom based career or progress onto Higher Education courses like the Foundation Degree (Arts) Integrated Children & Young People's Services or the BA (Hons) in Early Childhood Studies. Prospective students will need to determine if their employer will consider this award for qualified status, terms and conditions apply.
