Course review:
Unit 1 of the Diploma in Home-based Childcare, Introduction to (Home-based) Childcare Practice (ICP), is the recommended introductory course for new and prospective childminders. This course is also suitable for un-qualified Nannies* (and other home-based childcarers) wishing to register with Ofsted.
* Nannies are recommended by Ofsted to attend the Common Core Skills and Knowledge training.
Course Delivery:
The course is delivered by distance learning. Each learner is allocated a personal tutor who will provide them with the relevant course materials and guidance to complete the course. The tutor is available for email or telephone support.
The course is assessed through an assignment which consists of a range of policies, a financial plan, a marketing plan and a work pack of questions. The submission is learner led – so you can complete it as quickly as you want to.

- Establishing a safe and healthy childcare environment in a home-based setting
- Establishing routines for home-based child care
- Providing play and other activities for children in the home-based setting
- Introducing children and their families to your childcare service
- Managing children’s behaviour in the home-based setting
- Inclusion and anti-bias practice
- Child protection
- Working as a home-based child carer
Length of Course: We would expect learners to take between 2 and 6 weeks to complete.
