This course will suit you if you wish to start a career working with children. It aims to give you a knowledge and understanding of working with children, under supervision, in a wide range of settings and is suited to both school leavers and mature applicants.

Course Units The course is made up of the following units: Award:

· An introduction to working with children
· The developing child

Certificate (including the above units):

· Safe, healthy and nurturing environments for children
· Children and play
· Communication and professional skills within child care and education

Diploma (including all above units):

· The child care practitioner in the workplace
· Work with babies 0-1 Year

For Award, Certificate and Diploma level, practical work experience will be gained - two days per week, working with children in at least two different child care settings. The course comprises classroom activity, lectures, group work, workshops and individual study. Your course is enhanced by Functional Skills in:

· Information Technology, Communication and Application of Number

Assessment This will be a mixture of assignments, multiple choice question papers and portfolios.

Further Opportunities
· Progression to BTEC National Diploma in Children's Care, Learning and Development or BTEC National Diploma in Health and Social Care (Health Studies) if merit grades are obtained
