CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools
Who is this for?
This course will suit you if you are already working or volunteering as a teaching assistant under supervision or in another support role in a school
What Will I Learn?
The qualification covers practical work related tasks which demonstrate your competence at Level 2.
Content of the Course
This course will suit you if you have completed a level 1 childcare course (e.g. Working with Children) and wish to move to work in a school, or if you are an adult new to the childcare and education sector. You will learn how to work with pupils individually or in groups under the supervision of a teacher in teaching and learning support.
You can work in primary or secondary settings. Assessment is by one internally marked assignment and one externally marked assignment. You should also be prepared to undertake a voluntary or paid work placement of at least 120 hours in a school setting during the course. Varndean College can advise you on this, if necessary.
When you have successfully completed this course you will be able to progress onto the CACHE Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools. You will also be able to apply for teaching assistant jobs at an appropriate level.
To enter you must be at least 18 years of age with GCSES or equivalent at D grade. You will also need a recent CRB check which is normally carried out through your placement but can be obtained through Varndean College. Please note that entry to this course involves completion of a CACHE course application form available online or from the Adult Education Office.
Equipment Needed
None.
Work needed to be Done outside of the Classroom
You will need to either be employed or in a work placement for at least 150 hours during the course in order to have the chance to demonstrate the necessary skills and experience necessary for this course.
Assessment Details
Assessment will be through building a portfolio and time will be given throughout the course for portfolio guidance sessions as well as underpinning knowledge.
