Is it for me?
Yes if you work with young children and want to gain a greater understanding across a broad range of skills and underpinning knowledge.

What do I need?
A genuine desire to work with young children and their families is essential and it is required that you complete a placement in an appropriate work setting (employed or voluntary).
Acceptance on to this courses is subject to a satisfactory police clearance and two references. Further guidance will be given by the course team at interview or induction.
A criminal record will not necessarily be a bar to studying on this course, a number of factors will be taken in to consideration.

What will I study?
Level 2 Units
You will study7 units comprised of 6 mandatory units plus 1 option unit.
Mandatory units:

• CCLD 201 Contribute to positive relationship
• CCLD 202 Help to keep children safe
• CCLD 203 Support children's development
• CCLD 204 Use support to develop own practice in children's care, learning and development
• CCLD 205 Prepare and maintain environments to meet children's needs
• CCLD 206 Support children's play and learning

Choose 1 from the following options:

• CCLD 207 Contribute to the effectiveness of teams
• CCLD 208 Support the development of babies and children under 3 years
• CCLD 209 Support a child with disabilities a or special educational needs
• CCLD 210 Support children and young peoples play

Where will I study?
Baltic Campus
You'll be based at our fantastic £39million Baltic campus on the quayside. The campus has a prime location on Gateshead quayside, and state-of-the-art facilities including a Jacuzzi, gym and sauna, a 200 seat theatre, state-of-the-art classrooms, training kitchen and restaurant, refectory, bistro and vending areas.

How will I be assessed?
You will be continuously assessed throughout the programme both in the workplace and through a range of methods in College including projects, assignments, reports, case studies etc.

What qualification will I get?
NVQ Level 2 in Children's Care, Learning and Development.

Can I go onto further study?
You could progress onto the Level 3 programme

What are the career opportunities?
Achieving NVQ Level 2 allows progression into employment in Children's Care, Learning and Development in a range of care settings or to Level 3, which leads to supervisory status.
