One mandatory unit: Developing effective communication in health & social care
Assessment
This course is assessed by a portfolio of coursework.
Teaching styles
This course really focuses on the vocational aspects of Health & Social Care so you will find a lot of teaching is based in work experience/placement visits or case studies/role plays. There will also be group discussions, case study work, presentations, guest speakers, creation of resources, individual research, role play situation, practical application and so on.
Subject combinations
Complementary subjects are Sociology, Psychology, Citizenship and Biology. Students can also take complementary courses such as Science, especially if interested in a career in Health Care.
Resources and facilities
We have an extensive range of books, journals and DVD’s available in the library. Examples and case studies are used to bring this course to life and make it enjoyable to study. We have laptops which students can use during class time, they can be used to complete coursework and you can use the internet for research. We also have part of the college which is dedicated to health and social care classes only with specialist equipment (e.g. for monitoring fitness). The course is supported by the study plus team who operate an ‘open door’ policy and run Workshops.

Progression
Level 3 Certificates earn you UCAS points and are therefore valued by universities allowing you to take on HND/ HNC or honours degree. Students can go in to careers such as nursing, teaching, midwifery, social work and many more. You can progress to the Level 3 Introductory Diploma at Regent College if desired.
Entry requirements
A minimum of five GCSEs at grade A*- C or 4 - 9, or equivalent, including English Language OR PASS at Level 2 and a C or 4 in English Language.
