Car + Trailer (B+E)
If you passed your driving test after the 1st January 1997 (including re-tests) you must pass a practical category B+E test to tow a trailer which exceeds 750kg, or vehicle and trailer/caravan combination over 3.5 tonnes. The standard "B" Car licence will allow you to tow a combined weight up to 3.5 tonnes providing that the laden weight of the trailer does not exceed the unladen weight of the tow vehicle.
Three Counties Training offer towing training by Fully Qualified Driving Instructors to companies and individuals who require this additional category.
We can offer initial assessments of ability, as well as structured training to pass the test. We provide the vehicle and trailer for training and for the test.
The B+E test is based on the LGV driving test and lasts for approximately one hour.
The test consists of the following requirements:
• The ability to carry out safety checks on your vehicle and trailer
• The reversing exercise
• The braking exercise
• The drive
• Uncoupling and recoupling
You do not need a medical or Theory test prior to this training.
Each location has a dedicated off road area for the reversing and braking exercise, these areas are set out to DSA Test specifications, and as they are owned by Three Counties Training Ltd as much time as necessary can be spent practicing to reach test standard set out by the DSA.
Three Counties Training Limited require a 200 GBP (two hundred pounds) to reserve course bookings. This is a non refundable deposit towards the overall cost of the course payable.
All courses are to be paid in full 1 week prior to commencement of practical training. At this point any payment is non refundable.
