The Care Leadership and Managent Higher apprenticeship is made up of three Adult Social Care Pathways Level 5 Diploma pathways:
The Management pathway is suitable for Assistant Managers and Deputy Managers working in day or domiciliary services who are looking to progress their career. It is also appropriate for Managers who have not yet achieved a vocational qualification at this level

Adult social care employers are increasingly looking to Apprenticeships as a way to effectively train their workforce and new staff.
The Higher Apprenticeship in Care Leadership and Management Level 5 is designed to support workers at a higher level in order that they can meet service and delivery demands as well as leading and managing the workforce.
This qualification provides the skills and knowledge needed to manage practice and lead others in adult health and social care provision or in children and young people’s services.
Who is the course for?
This qualification provides learners with the skills and knowledge needed to manage practice and lead others in adult health and social care provision.
The NCFE CACHE Higher Apprenticeship in Care Leadership Level 5 is designed to support workers at a higher level in order that they can meet service and delivery demands, as well as leading and managing the workforce.
Desirable skills and attributes in potential apprentices include:
- motivation to succeed within the sector
- good interpersonal skills, effective verbal and non-verbal communication skills
- respect for people who use the services as individuals
- a suitable level of physical fitness may be necessary in order to perform some aspects of the job roles
- willingness and ability to work both long shifts and irregular shift patterns as provision of care has to be available 24 hours a day
- willingness to undertake personal care which includes assistance with dressing, feeding, washing and toileting, as well as advice, encouragement and emotional and psychological support
- an ability to work in small informal teams
- demonstrating their listening skills and decision making skills as well as ability to lead formal teams
- set and enforce procedures and act as a guide or a mentor to staff a positive non-judgemental
- and open-minded attitude and value-system
- a standard of literacy and numeracy in keeping with the demands of the job
What will I learn?
The Care Leadership and Managent Higher apprenticeship is made up of three Adult Social Care Pathways Level 5 Diploma pathways:
- The Management pathway is suitable for Assistant Managers and Deputy Managers working in day or domiciliary services who are looking to progress their career. It is also appropriate for Managers who have not yet achieved a vocational qualification at this level
- The Residential Services pathway is aimed at those in similar job roles as those taking the Management pathways but the focus is on management and care in residential settings
- The Advanced Practice pathway is geared towards senior practitioners who would like to develop their career but wish to remain active practitioners in the management framework.
What award will I achieve?
Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People’s Services (England) (90 credits)
What next?
Learners may progress from this pathway onto further qualifications specific to their work context. A wide range of qualifications are available for use within the social care sector.

On completion learners can progress to a wide range of job roles depending on the pathway take to include :

- assistant manager
- care broker
- case manager
- senior support worker
- day care manager
- residential care manager.
How will I be assessed?
Learners will be assessed through a variety of methods which may include assignments, portfolio or evidence, observation and professional discussion.
What are the Entry Requirements
Individuals about to undertake this framework will be working in Manager or Deputy job roles in an appropriate setting for the framework, and allows them to gather the evidence necessary for the qualifications and components which form a part of the framework. It is necessary to attend an interview with the Work Based Learning team and Care Leadership assessor/course tutor, complete basic skills assessments in literacy and numeracy. Learners should be at least 19 years old. It is also recommended that they will hold a Level 3 qualification or above in a related area.
Attendance
College attendance is required; however one hour weekly online learning for the technical knowledge will also be required. This will be in conjunction with assessment in the workplace. Attendance and progress is closely monitored by the assessor towards the qualifications and your employer will be informed of any non-activity.
Requirements in the workplace
Students are required to be employed in a suitable work placement providing administrative tasks in a supervisory or senior role. Skilled and knowledgeable staff in placement to support the apprentice.

if you do not already have one.
