Course Overview
This course is aimed at mature & / or experienced candidates seeking an advanced craft qualification, and is designed for those who have already achieved the Diploma Level 2 or NVQ Level 2 in Carpentry & Joinery.

Course Structure
The programme consists of 7 knowledge units and 7 practical units, all of which must be successfully completed to achieve the qualification.

Some topics covered will include:
  • Safe working practices
  • Construction technology
  • Quantities & communication
  • Set up and use circular saws
  • Produce setting out details
  • Mark out joinery products
  • Manufacture joinery products


Qualification Aims
Successful students will achieve the Diploma Level 3 in either Site Carpentry or Bench Joinery.
(Students who gain employment in the industry can collect site evidence towards the NVQ L3)
Progression is also possible into higher education.

Assessments/Examinations
The course is continually assessed following a period of training with assessments covering practical and written work, together with assignments, one external exam and synoptic practical assignment.

Students are expected to provide:
Steel toecap boots
Simple calculator
Set squares 30°/60°and 45°(large)
Scale rule
2H pencils
A4 note pad

The cost of the equipment will vary according to quality. As a guide you will probably spend£30-£40 in total.
