The college has unrivalled experience in developing cartoonists. For almost 75 years from our beginnings in Fleet Street, we have been working with our students to help them realise their dreams - to become published cartoonists. Suitable for: Anyone with basic drawing skills. There is a refresher section on drawing, but some basic ability is desirable. The course covers cartooning in many forms and provides a comprehensive introduction to the subject.

About this course

Students need a genuine interest in the subject, a sense of humour, some basic drawing ability and at least a little creativity. Our programme is very detailed and the personal support provided by your course tutor is a key ingredient in making this such a successful and long running course.

Alexander is a very experienced illustrator and cartoonist who was awarded the D&AD Silver medal for his work for the Post Office. He is a science fiction enthusiast whose cartoons have appeared in many books and magazines.

The college has unrivalled experience in developing cartoonists. For almost 75 years from our beginnings in Fleet Street, we have been working with our students to help them realise their dreams - to become published cartoonists. Other providers offer pale imitations of our well proven course. With 28 study units covering every aspect of this marvellous art form - Getting started, Basic techniques, colour and perspective, The art of Humour, Cartoon layouts, Children, animals & birds in cartoons, Figure drawing, Heads & eyes, Features & expressions, Character identification, the main Joke formats, Strip cartoons, Caricatures and much much more - our students receive a comprehensive course that we believe is unequalled elsewhere. You can find shorter courses, you can find cheaper courses - but you won't find a better one! London Art College's written course provides very practical advice, sound techniques and a modern approach to the subject. The course includes advice on selling your work and developing the commercial opportunities that your talent can open up. Working 4-6 hours a week, most students can complete the course in under twelve months. At the end of it, you will have the knowledge and skills you need to make the grade as a cartoonist with real prospects of selling your work on a regular basis.

Critiques
Alexander provides either written critiques via email, tape form or written printed critiques via regular mail.

Critiques via email
If you have scanning facilities, students are able to upload their artwork to the tutors centre, from our students administration area. Each student will need to obtain a username and password to this area, if you do not currently have the details please email us. The form consists of browse buttons to attach your work, and a comments box where you can type a letter to John explaining how you got on with your artwork.

Critiques via Regular Mail.

f you do not have any facilities to upload your artwork, you can send your work in the normal way to the tutors centre and receive your artwork back with a written critique or tape.

Support
Students receive all the help and support they need from Alexander Cameron the course artist. Alexander is a successful cartoonist, artist and graphic designer. His cartoons are widely published and he has a wealth of experience that he is happy to share with his students. Alexander is very approachable and is happy to keep in close contact with students to ensure they get maximum value from their programme.
No previous experience is needed with this course. Basic drawing techniques are included in the programme. Course duration is approximately twelve months.
