What's it all about?:
With some basic skills already under your belt we know you will be eager to start the next phase of learning. You will explore more deeply into the theory, the basics of which you already have, and back it up with best practice techniques.

Progression:
On successful completion you will have the opportunity to apply for a day release Apprenticeship course with the College or employment in a range of catering jobs including food services assistant, assistant chef or kitchen porter.

Entry Requirements:
There are no specific entry requirements. However, you will be invited to attend an informal interview to assess your suitability for the course.

Duration: Two years Course Overview
What does the course involve?:

The course includes the following topics:
• general catering studies
• food service
• practical cookery
• baking skills
• basic kitchen operations
• information technology
• communication
• numeracy
• work skills and careers education.

When can I study?:
Monday to Friday, times vary

Are there any exams?:
You will be taught the skills and assessed for:
• NVQ Level 1 Food and Drink Service (year one)
• NVQ Level 1 Food Preparation and Cooking (year two)
• Essential Food Hygiene Certificate
• health and safety.
