About this course
CCNA is required and experience of network administration and management is preferred. Students must have prior experience of configuring Cisco routers. It would be preferable to have completed Semesters 4, 5 and 6 of CCNP: Building Scalable Networks; Multilayer Switched Networks; and Remote Access Networks.

What's the course about?
Learners will be taught the process and practice of design, technical troubleshooting and fault diagnosis to enable them to build a remote access network.
The course covers the following:
- Understanding the technology of troubleshooting and baselining a network
- Understand how to implement and operate troubleshooting and baselining methodologies
- Troubleshoot a network using appropriate tools and methodologies
Practical and theoretical labs will include:
Network baselining; architectural models; network management tools; documentation; verification of connectivity; Cisco IOS commands and application to identify problems; problem isolation; data link layers problems; troubleshooting ISDN, static routes, RIP and switched Ethernet networks; IGP protocols; TCP/IP problems; Local layer 1 problem resolution; baseline service restoration; procedures for working with external providers.
The course is delivered via blended learning, which comprises lectures with on-screen demos and Cisco academy curriculum material with hands on lab exercises. You will be assessed on practical lab activities and a portfolio of work that you will build up.
How long is the course and when will it be taught?
CCNP 4 (semester 8) takes 15 weeks to complete either by day release or one evening per week for 30 weeks.
What will I be able to do after I've completed this course?
On completion of all four CCNP units students may progress to Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) status. In addition there are progression routes into NVQ level 4 courses and graduate apprenticeships. Career opportunities exist in the areas of systems administration and management in small to medium sized IT infrastructures. There is also the possibility of moving on to one of our foundation degrees in computers or security.
