Course programme
This exciting new course offers an insight into screen-printing for ceramic transfers. The course will enable you to design and produce your own screen-printed transfers, which will then be applied to a series of ceramic pieces and fired.
The course will involve idea generation and design research, therefore you are encouraged to bring visuals with you, such as patterns or photographs which can be used as inspiration for designs.
You will be taught through practical workshops and demonstrations all the processes and techniques that are involved in ceramic transfer production.
You can expect to learn how to:
- Modify imagery using Photoshop
- Design and create artwork ready for print production
- Expose artwork to create screens
- How to mix enamels, print and cover coat ceramic transfers
- How to apply transfers to ceramic objects
The course will appeal to beginners, students and professionals who have an interest in surface design and ceramics and want to increase their understanding of materials and processes involved.
Some white ware and tiles are provided, although students are welcome and encouraged to bring their own bone china or handmade pieces.
The pieces will be fired during and after the course. Students will need to be available after the course finishes to collect work.

Please note that appropriate ventilation is in place for the oil based screen printing processes on this course.
Pre-requisites:
It is useful if students have a basic understanding of Photoshop, although this is not essential, as full support and assistance will be given.
