The first 2 days will be making sessions with demonstrations of burnishing, resist techniques and smoke firing processes. The pieces produced will then be fired and day.

Ceramics - Art Summer School

Your Course
'Naked Clay' - this exciting and fun 3 day workshop is suitable for both beginners and experienced makers who wish to experiment with new surface design and methods using non-glaze surface decoration and smoke firing techniques. The first 2 days will be making sessions with demonstrations of burnishing, resist techniques and smoke firing processes. The pieces produced will then be fired and day 3 will be a smoke-firing session outside.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course you will have been given the opportunity to:
· Investigate various clay techniques, both traditional and non-traditional.
· Develop an understanding of the possibilities and limitations of the medium.
· Find and develop the techniques and styles that best express your own creativity.
Your Tutor
Penelope Hayes has a BA Fine Art degree from the University of Hertfordshire and HND Ceramics from City Lit. She has taught in Los Angeles as well as the UK, London. Her work has been exhibited throughout the UK, including Kettle's Yard, Cambridge and Firstsite, Colchester, as well as AS220 in Providence, Rhode Island, USA.

Method of payment: Fees for short courses (10 weeks or less) to be paid in full at enrolment and for long courses (12 weeks or more) fees of 50% can be paid at enrolment plus 50% as a cheque. Course places cannot be reserved without receipt of both payments.

Please note that there are no classes during half term Monday 15th - Friday 19th February 2010 unless otherwise stated.
