Certificate in Clinical Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy involves the use of essential oils extracted from aromatic plants and trees to promote and maintain health and vitality. The course includes tuition and development of practical skills in massage, relevant anatomy and physiology and all aspects of clinical, holistic aromatherapy.

Successful candidates will be awarded the SQA Higher National Unit in Aromatherapy and a College Certificate in Clinical Aromatherapy. The course comprises of 3 parts as outlined below. Parts 1 & 2 may be studied concurrently.

Part 1 - Anatomy & Physiology
Study of systems of the body with emphasis on the circulatory and lymphatic systems and in-depth Anatomy. Disorders of the body systems.

Attendance is one evening per week for 17 weeks.

Part 2 - Body Massage
Training in classical massage to enable the effective use of massage movements for a therapeutic effect. Learners who successfully complete Part 2 will be awarded the SQA Higher National Unit in Body Massage.

Attendance is one evening per week for 20 weeks.

Part 3 - Aromatherapy

Study of the use of 30 essential oils including methods of extraction; main chemical components; Latin names; therapeutic properties; blending methods; contra-indications specific to each oil and client consultation procedures. Training will be given in the safe application of oils to achieve the desired effect.

Attendance is 2 evenings per week over a 13 week period.

* Learners require to wear a tunic and trousers for these practical classes.
