THE DIPLOMA COURSE
The Diploma Course requires students to attend on twelve intermittent weekends, usually spread over a year. The lectures cover all the required modules of the LCCH syllabus and are practical and intensive. There is continuous assessment of each student's progress and time is made available to discuss any problems that may have been encountered during the intervening weeks. Required home study consists of reading recommended text books and the submission of four essays.
Eligibility
Passing the Part One Certificate exam is the minimum requirement for a place on the Diploma Course. As part of their training, students will need to apply, and be accepted, for Affiliate Membership of the British Society of Clinical Hypnosis - designating letters BSCH(Affil). As Affiliate Members, Diploma Course students are required to obtain professional indemnity insurance that will cover them for malpractice.
Tutorials
On weekend one of the Diploma Course, students will be given a list of tutors. The individual student will then be responsible for contacting his/her tutor - usually in their own area - and to meet for an hour's tutorial at least once after each lecture weekend. At these sessions the tutor will check that the student fully understands the content of the previous weekend, will discuss the procedures the student is using with their subjects/patients, and will assess the hypnotherapeutic skills of the student. Because of its importance, the LCCH has arranged a nominal charge of £20 (UK pounds) per hour of tutorial. Students will be expected to make individual arrangements with their tutors regarding payment. A minimum of twelve supervisory sessions are required as part of the Diploma Course and exam structure.
BSCH Affiliates may, under strict clinical supervision, begin to practice as trainee hypnotherapists in certain non-clinical cases such as smoking, weight control, confidence and stress-related problems. In fact a number of our students - now successful practitioners - have been able, partially or fully, to finance their studies through such activities
Interruption of studies
The LCCH realises that many of its students are in full-time employment or have equally important outside commitments. Sometimes, the untoward does occur and may result in an interruption of studies. If the interruption is of a temporary nature, then every attempt will be made to allow the student to catch up. This may take the form of attending an equivalent weekend (without charge) on a parallel course at one of our other centres, or on a consecutive course. If the interruption is of a lengthy duration, then students must recommence at a future date. Students shall not be put forward for examination without the necessary pass marks on both the written assignments (essays) and the tutorial part of the course.
DIPLOMA COURSE SYLLABUS
At the end of the Diploma Course students will be required to pass both a practical (oral) and a written examination. Successful candidates will gain their Diploma in Clinical Hypnosis (D.Hyp) and are deemed to be of a level to practice hypnotherapy. Graduates will be encouraged to practice under the auspices of the British Society of Clinical Hypnosis and may apply for a place on the Postgraduate Course.
