About the course
This qualification is designed for learners who would like an understanding of common health conditions and their effects on individuals. The purpose of this qualification is to give learners currently working or intending to work in adult health and social care an awareness of a range of common health conditions. Learners may then progress to additional qualifications to gain a more in-depth understanding of specific health conditions. Delivery and duration
You will be provided with the learning materials either online and/or hardcopies and you will have the support of a knowledgeable assessor/tutor who will give you guidance and feedback on the course as you complete it. This course takes between 2 to 6 months to complete.

Due to government funding these courses are available free of charge; subject to the learners meeting the set eligibility. You must have lived in the UK/EU for the past 3 years and be over years old. There may be a fee should you withdraw from the course.

Subjects covered To be awarded the NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Common Health Conditions, learners must achieve a minimum of credits: A total of 2 credits from the mandatory unit in Group A A minimum of credits from the optional units in Group B Group A Mandatory unit Understand how to contribute to monitoring the health of individuals affected by health conditions (2 credits) Group B optional units Understand cardiovascular disease (3 credits) Understand respiratory disease (3 credits) Introductory awareness of sensory loss (2 credits) Stroke awareness (3 credits) Diabetes awareness (3 credits) Arthritis awareness (3 credits) Dementia awareness (2 credits) Understand the impact of acquired brain injury on individuals (3 credits) Understanding mental health (4 credits) Understand the context of supporting individuals with learning disabilities (4 credits) Understand physical disability (2 credits) Parkinson’s disease awareness (3 credits) The qualification has mandatory units and a number of optional units to allow you to follow subject areas to meet your own requirements. The coverage of these topics will give you a general awareness of a range of common health conditions and their effects on individuals.
