About this course
To train DCPs with adequate theoretical knowledge and skills, which will facilitate them to take radiographs with best practice at their respective workplace.
Qualified and GDC registered dental care professionals, taking intra - oral/ extra-oral radiographs at their dental practices.
To be eligible for the course you must:
-Hold a recognised Dental Nursing Qualification
-Be registered with the General Dental Council
-Have support of your employer to support you in completion of the record of experience
-commit to 100% attendance on the given course dates
-Be able to meet the clinical requirements for the record of experience
It is the candidate's responsibility to ensure they have access to the clinical requirements of the record of experience, this will not be provided on the course

- Summary
- This course is designed to provide both theoretical and practical instruction, along with portfolio support, for candidates wishing to sit the NEBDN certificate in Dental Radiography.
- The course will run on Saturdays.
- This course will cover:
- Radiation physics
- Radiation Protection
- X-ray apparatus and equipment
- Film types, intensifying screens, darkroom requirements and processing
- Digital imagery
- By the end of this course dental nurses will be able to:
- Discuss the principles of radiation physics and protection
- Have awareness of current legislation and safe practice with regards to dental radiography
- Demonstrate safe use of apparatus and equipment
- Discuss film types and their uses
- Demonstrate competency in taking intra oral, extra oral and digital x-rays through the completion of a Record of Experience
- To achieve this qualification you will need:
- 85% attendance on course dates
- Successful completion of NEBDN Record of Experience which includes the compilation of 3x1000 word case studies
- Achieve pass mark in the NEBDN final examination
