The CET is designed to assess the knowledge and understanding of those transporting horses in connection with an economic activity on journeys over 65km but not exceeding eight hours (short journeys).
The qualification has two units:
- Unit 1 Transporting Horses - mandatory
- Unit 2 Principles of Driving a Vehicle Carrying Horses - optional
Attendant option - candidate must complete unit 1
Attendant/Driver option - candidate must complete both units 1 & 2
Unit 1: Transporting Horses
- Animal welfare legislation
- Horse Health, food, rest & water
- Loading & unloading
- Planning a journey over 65k & not exceeding eight hours
- Health and safety regulation and ability to identify & minimise risks
- Vehicle travel compartments & use of fittings and partitions
- Vehicle preparation and cleanliness
Unit 2: Principles of Driving a Vehicle Carrying Horses
- Knowledge of vehicle preparation for transporting horses
- Knowledge of the principles of driving a vehicle carrying horses
The Test
The tests comprise short multiple choice papers. There is no practical element to this qualification.
