About the Award
Every person who has responsibility for the health, welfare and care of animals will undoubtedly on some occasion be required to administer a veterinary medicine.
This Award aims to certificate those people and accredit their competence in using. storing and accounting for veterinary medicines correctly and safely. It highlights the essential requirement to administer veterinary medicines correctly with due care for the animal's welfare and maintain accurate records of animals treated.
The Assessment
The assessment is designed to establish that the candidate has:
- The relevant knowledge and understanding to be able to plan and supervise the safe use and storage of veterinary medicines.
- The ability to implement and monitor the safe use and storage of veterinary medicines.
Candidates will be assessed as ‘competent' or ‘not yet competent'.
The assessment is divided into:
- A practical assessment – AH1 and AH2
- A written assessment – AH1 and AH2
Candidates who successfully achieve both components will be awarded a ‘Certificate of Competence' in either AH2 or AH1 and AH2 as appropriate.
