Who should enrol
Anyone using a chainsaw 'professionally' (ie. Where the NPTC certificate is required). Operators who are working for professional forestry or utility arboriculture (eg. Railtrack or the Forestry Commission) will require the separate NPTC test. Operatives should have a certificate of competence.

Assessment
Separate practical assessment with questions (about 3 - 4 hours) on a day following the end of the course - the application process normally take between 2 & 4 weeks but can be arranged sooner in some cases

Duration
1 days for experienced users (3 years experience recommended) 3 days for less experienced users

Validity
Valid for up to 5 years then requiring a refresher only with no assessment.

Pre-requisites
NPTC units CS30 & CS31 with suitable, relevant experience. Trainees must be over 17 years old & in good health. Persons with certain ailments or on medication may not be able to take part in the practical sessions.

First Aid qualification recommended
